The bride, groom and their parents are seated with 5 other elderly couples sitting around them. The priest then gives the Kankana thread to be wound around all of them four to five times so as to create a sacred circle around the bride and groom.The essence of the vedic mantras permeates the thread. This sacred thread is then tied on left wrist of the bride and right wrist of the groom. They are now considered the embodiment of Lakshmi and Narayana.
