The wedding day begins with Mangala Vadya. Parents and relatives of the bride will welcome the groom and his relatives to the wedding hall.
Kashi Yatra is symbolic and it gives the option for the groom to leave the worldly pleasures and lead the life of an ascetic or get married and enter Gruhasthashrama. So the groom embarks on a mock pilgrimage to renounce the world. He is dressed in the traditional dhoti, chappals, 2 rings (made of rice flour] to the ear, holds an umbrella and a walking stick to supposedly move to Kashi. He stops when his maternal uncle assures that he has chosen the best bride (his daughter) for him and persuades him to stay back and marry.
